Recently in the search notebook recommended related articles, especially for college students when the notebook. It always feels like there’s a strange area, which is the recommended notebook. Many times it does not take into account the needs of science and engineering students, especially the desire of graduate students or later comrades to demand productivity tools. If there are two extremes in the classification of notebooks, one is ultra-thin and portable but the performance is very weak can only be used to look at online video, deal with simple text work, the other is to mobile workstations and game-based, strong performance can be competent for lightweight numerical calculation and audio and video rendering work and a certain number of game needs, But the weight is easily 3kg upward and not portable. So between these two categories, there is also a class of ultra-polar workstations that balance productivity and portability, this type of notebook, in fact, there are not many options, mainly concentrated in HP, DELL, Apple and Lenovo 4 brands. MacOS aside (many science and engineering majors must run in a Windows environment), the most famous series being the HP Zbook series, The Dell XPS series, and Lenovo’s P series.

Appearance Showcase

The fuselage a face is matt metal material, HP logo is bright surface design, the overall style is very tough.

The upper and lower borders of the B-sided screen are not really narrow, probably to facilitate the plug of the camera and for the symmetrical design of the plate mode, but thanks to the contrast of the left and right sides of the screen, the whole is still in an acceptable category. However, the quality of the camera is very general, may be designed to meet the needs of video calls to see people in the first place. The C face is first and foremost a B&O certified stereo opening. The lower keyboard feels general, but it’s still a lot better than the MacBook’s butterfly keyboard feel. Support screen backlight, F1 to F12 Multimedia and shortcut keys are also very rich. What I’m not satisfied with is that the studio series cancels the keypad, which is not very handy when entering numbers in large quantities. As for the directional key design of many people spitting, probably because I used to get used to HP’s book, and did not feel not comfortable. Touchpad support Win10 gesture operation, the size of the feel is also more appropriate. There is a fingerprint recognition module on the right that you can use to log on to Windows.

The fuselage D surface uses 2 rubber to raise the fuselage, increase the fan inlet volume and increase friction, both sides for the sound opening. The diagonal design makes the fuselage look a little thinner than it actually is.

There are 2 USB3.0 interfaces on the left, one of which supports shutdown charging, a SIM card slot (optional), notebook lock port, and power switch. The power switch is integrated with the power led, which is always lit in the boot state.

On the right side are the Power interface, 2 Lightning 3 interface, a HDMI2.0 interface, headphone microphone 2 and 1 interface and a multi-oneness card reader.

The fuselage size is 360 mm*254mm*20.4mm and the fuselage weighs about 2.26kg. This weight and ultrabook ratio is not lighter, but in the workstation level of the computer, and the frequent 3,5kg of the comparison, is already light.

There is the word mobile workstation at the spindle.

Main configuration

The main configuration of the machine is i7-8750h processor, Nvidea Quadro P1000 graphics card, 16g*1 ddr4-2666 memory, 512g NVME SSD, 96whr-6 core Battery, 15.6 inch FHD flip Display.

There are very few accessories randomly attached, there is an HP active pen G2 Stylus (with 10 replacement refill), a USB type-c transfer wired network interface to the wiring, and a 150w power adapter.

With the wacom technique used by the stylus, there is a 4,096 level pressure sensation.

At this stage there is no stylus and touch screen combination feel more than a separate drawing board peripherals, but to cope with some simple use, this pen is enough. The notebook’s screen can be flipped 360 degrees, with moderate damping, and supports WIN10 ‘s flat-panel mode. However, if you do not turn to 360, as with all x360 notebooks, the screen will wobble slightly during the touchscreen operation.

The machine does not have a DC screen that HP prides itself on, but FHD is also an acceptable option given the need for life and performance. Due to handwritten requirements, the screen surface covers the 3rd generation of Corning Glass. The resulting side effect is that the reflection of the bright screen can sometimes be more intense. The fuselage is equipped with gravity sensing module, in the flat mode can be converted to screen direction, but with 2.26kg notebook reading, it is estimated that it is not a particularly good experience, flat on the desktop combined with stylus operation is still a relatively good choice. After turning the computer into a 360-degree tablet mode, handwriting enters some of the more troublesome content, such as a large number of formula input, will be much more convenient.

Because I am not engaged in design-related professional, so did not delve into the color performance of this screen, according to other friends of the test feedback, this screen color quality is more general, if there are relevant aspects of professional needs, it is recommended to directly choose 4k DC screen.

This machine configuration of the CPU is i7-8750h, a total of 6 cores 12 threads, compared to the same 8 generations of i7-8850h, the gap is not large, in the major manufacturers can not properly handle the I9 processor heat dissipation situation, the basic could become the most cost-effective choice of the generation. Selectable CPUs from i5-8300h to Xeon E-2186m

According to the CPU-Z test results, this u basically has the power of i7-8700k 80%, in the mobile platform has been enough to use.

This machine is equipped with a video card Quadro P1000, a professional graphics card launched by Nvidia in February 2017. The graphics card uses a 14 nm process and is based on the GP107 graphics processor, supporting DirectX 12.0. Rumor is the GTX1050 that calculates the card version. Mainly for CAD and other software has been optimized, in SolidWorks performance of more than GTX1080. With the relevant professional needs, it is still very easy to use a card. Game performance, basic and GTX1050 alignment, DOTA2 and other games should be no problem

This machine is equipped with a single 16g-2666 of memory, estimated to facilitate subsequent upgrades, at this stage is also sufficient for the time being. The machine itself supports up to 32G of memory. If the optional CPU is a Xeon series, ECC memory can also be selected.

Hard disk

Hard disk is Toshiba’s XG5 series, seems to be Toshiba’s first consumer-grade TLC, reading speed is OK, write speed is really some general. The 512G hard drive removes backup space and the system’s self-occupied space is available for approximately 400G. In addition, inside the fuselage, there is a hard disk bit of the M2 interface. If you are using a 4-cell battery instead of a 6-cell battery, you can also add an additional mechanical hard drive bit.

According to these two weeks of experience, 6-cell batteries in daily use can support 6-8 hours, 30 minutes can be charged to about 50% of the power, fully charged time does not exceed 2 hours. Use a non-original charger to charge from the Lightning port with a minimum charging voltage of 65W.

I got this machine at the end of August, almost the first batch of users in the world, according to some feedback on the forum, the machine itself may appear some minor problems will also be exposed,

Like what

Some of the machine’s headphone holes have high-frequency noise, and Hewlett-Packard is not ready to replace the motherboard accessories (but should be resolved in subsequent batches of machines)

When the power supply is connected, the fan speed is fast and the startup is frequent, and the guessing will be resolved in subsequent updates.

Some hotkeys of some keyboards will fail, such as shortcuts that adjust the brightness of the screen

But on my machine, all the other problems were fixed, except that the fan started irregularly when the power was connected.

Give me a brief summary.

Notebook exterior design is very tough, metal shell is very textured;

Equipped with i7-8750h,16g memory, 512G SSD, Quadro P1000 graphics card, performance is sufficient for the use of science and engineering students;

X360 Flip screen with stylus and paired with Win10 tablet mode

6-cell battery can support 6-8 hours of life, in most cases can meet the use of half a day to one days;

The volume of the power adapter is more suitable for portability;

Non-DC screen color quality is general, can not be competent for professional work;

There is a problem with the management of the fan in the case of connecting the power supply;

SSD write speed is general; The quality of the camera is general;
